Dr. Reza Bavarsad Shahripour is a board-certified vascular neurologist and Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). He serves as Medical Director of the Neurovascular and Neurosonography Laboratory at the UCSD Stroke Center, where he specializes in advanced cerebrovascular diagnostics, acute stroke care, and translational neurovascular research. Dr. Bavarsad Shahripour completed advanced fellowship training in Vascular Neurology and NIH StrokeNet at UCSD, following extensive international training in stroke medicine and neurosonology across the United States, Australia, and Iran. He is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, holds Vascular Neurology subspecialty certification, and was elected Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA) in recognition of his scientific contributions to stroke research. His research focuses on transcranial Doppler ultrasonography, cerebral hemodynamics, collateral circulation, thrombectomy outcomes, cervical artery dissection, and acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke therapies. He has served as Principal Investigator or Sub-Investigator on multiple NIH-funded multicenter clinical trials, including FASTEST, SATURN, STOP-CAD, ARCADIA, SLEEP SMART, and RHAPSODY-2. Dr. Bavarsad Shahripour has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to major neurology textbooks, and is an Associate Editor of the Clinical Journal of Neuroimaging. He is an internationally invited speaker and educator in neurosonology and vascular neurology, with consistent presentations at the International Stroke Conference, American Academy of Neurology, and American Society of Neuroimaging. His work has been recognized with multiple honors, including the McKinney Award (2025), NIH ACTRI Pilot Grant, FAHA designation, and national and international scientific travel awards.
